Throughout the quiet hamlet of Putney Vermont, people had been waking up to find graffiti images of snowmen drawn on their windows and boy oh boy were they going to find out who did this because defacing public property could get you arrested.

Denny showed some of the graffiti to Margaret on the day he took her to the  courthouse to marry her. They had been rebuffed by the Justice of the Peace who, after  listening to their request said, ‘Hold on a second’ and then called someone and spoke into the phone in a quiet voice. The would-be newlyweds stared at him from the other side of the desk. Then the Justice said, ‘It will be just a moment, and after a while Dean Logan walked into the office.
“Don’t you two kids want to think this over, maybe invite some family or friends and find a nice wedding dress?”

But Margaret was already wearing a stupendous yellow dress that Denny had purchased with his father's credit card at Rickers Home Goods that very morning on their way to the courthouse.
